Questions before you integrate

Do credits expire?

No. A package of checks is yours until you use it. There is no monthly reset and no timeout on a paid package. The free tier is the exception: it resets to 1,000 checks every day and does not carry a balance.

How does auto-reload work?

Auto-reload is opt-in. The threshold defaults to 10 percent of your package size, and when your balance drops below it, we buy the same package again automatically and top up your balance. You can change the threshold or cancel auto-reload at any time from the dashboard. The charge is processed by Polar, the merchant of record for every purchase.

Can I get an EU VAT invoice?

Yes. Polar is the merchant of record for rate.email and collects your billing address and VAT ID at checkout, then issues an EU-compliant invoice for every purchase, available from the customer portal at any time.

How does rate.email handle GDPR and data retention?

We process the email address only to compute the rating. Addresses submitted for a live check are not stored beyond the cache window: results are cached for up to 7 days on our side, with a 6 hour default in the platform extensions. We act as a processor for the data you send us, and a Data Processing Agreement is available on request.

What does a "review" verdict mean?

Review means at least one medium-severity reason fired and no high-severity reason did. It is not a rejection. Most integrations let the signup or order through, store the verdict, and leave the decision to a human or a later automated step.

How long is a result cached, and can I control it?

The API returns a cache.ttl_seconds ceiling with every response, and your client is free to cache up to that value, capped at 7 days. The Magento extension ships with a 21,600 second (6 hour) default, configurable per install, with a separate override for reject results.

What is the deliverability slow path?

It is an optional live SMTP probe that confirms whether a specific mailbox currently accepts mail, instead of only checking whether the domain can receive mail. It adds 300ms to 2 seconds of latency and is included in every paid package by setting deliverability: true on a request.
